Submit Your Story

If you are interested in submitting your story for the Senior Care Stories blog, please follow the instructions below and e-mail it in the BODY of the message (no attachments please) to this e-mail address:

editors@seniorcarestories.com

Stories may be edited for grammar or length. If we like your submission, but believe it needs major editing, we will contact you and suggest changes.

Stories selected for the blog will also be considered for publication in our printed anthology.

  • Stories should be approx 200-350 words each
  • Should provide something helpful for those faced with caring for their senior parents with Alzheimer’s, dementia or some decreased mental or physical capacity that makes life more difficult
    • A tip for handling a specific condition or situation
    • A tip for dealing with an ongoing condition
    • Advice for coping with the stress of the situation
    • Preparation for the eventual loss of the loved one
  • Stories can be personal or family in nature
    • From the heart, but not sentimental or overly emotional
    • Not looking for doctor’s advice or scientific information
      • However, medical advice can be used if it is reinterpreted in a personal way
    • Humorous is a big plus
    • Sad works too, but not morbid or grief-stricken
  • We are NOT looking for rants against businesses or agencies you have had troubles with
  • We are also NOT looking for submissions that are purely cathartic in nature. While we sympathize with your grief, the goal of our posts is to share information that helps others cope with caring for aging parents
  • Stories should be just that—stories. Not essays or poetry or sales pitches. Stories work best when they build tension and include some kind of revelation or personal change or growth.
